My name is Eleni Anastasiadi and I am a proud Athenian. I studied Public Relations&Communication in the university of western Macedonia . I always felt attracted to fashion and music. In a way there was always this spark, this passion that gave me the reason to fight for what I want to do in my life. I tried many things like organizing music concerts, productions and managing various artists, but my one true desire was to create and manage my own brand. To show the world my signature creations and well, it happened because now,
Nεnε is here !
These are the words of Eleni, the woman behind the brand. I asked her to introduce herself to the reading crowd of It’s Marifashion, and so she did. Now I believe it is my turn to tell you a few things about Nεnε.
Half written with english and greek characters, Nεnε is an all in all Greek fashion brand which I first saw on my Instagram feed. So there was this post on some jackets with those peculiar and totally traditional greek patterns sewn on the back of a modern khaki bomber. I instantly fell for it so I decided to check out more about the account and the brand.
When I finally decided that I totally loved the cult traditional greek details on each and every modern and minimal piece of clothing Νεnε was creating, I thought that it would be an excellent idea to introduce the brand to you through an interview with the person behind all this. My dear Eleni accepted immediately and that, let me tell you, made me extremely happy because it’s one thing to cover a fashion brand but it is an honor to be able to support and cover designers and brands that flourish in your own country.
Nεnε handmade, creates the clothes, the embroidery and presents us a fine, modern yet elegant result showing above all that tradition lives in every aspect of art. But I will not tire you with words of my own. Instead I am happy to present to you Eleni Anastasiadi of Νεnε on an exclusive interview talking about her goals, dreams and work:
How do you stay updated on the current trends?
I stay updated on the current trends mostly by the international magazines & blogs feed! I also get inspired from some instagram accounts especially with those that are Berlin and Stockholm based and I love the girl from Byron Bay.
Why did you decide to become a fashion designer?
Fashion design was always my big dream! I didn’t go to any fashion school, I learned drawing fashion figures and sketching clothes all alone … My teacher for patterns and textures was mostly YouTube and books for dressmakers.
What is your favorite part about being a fashion designer?
Being a fashion designer is firstly an amazing feeling and secondly an amazing job! When you imagine something and create it on paper and then bring it to life through fabric and color is an invaluable feeling! Imagination and creativity are the best word tools.
Define fashion, what inspires you?
For me, fashion is one quote “Express yourself” … My inspirations are music, trips, experiences and of course the Greek culture and the Greek islands… This is the combination that makes me more creative! I’ve never been a fashion victim. I think everyone should have a personal and unique style! Copying the “get the look” isn’t style.
What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your fashion company?
Starting your own company, isn’t something easy! To start with, you do not have many partners, especially in the beginning. You have to deal with your anxiety and you must learn setting priorities … Having the overview of your company is the most important thing. The biggest lesson I have learned is that patience is the new gold.
What shall we expect from you now? What is your latest project at the moment?
My latest fashion project is “ANDRONEDA” collection. This collection includes mostly boho jackets in minimal lines and embroidered backs. As we’re talking, my new collection for Spring/Summer17 “Chaos by Nεnε” & “Atrium” is in progress. The last one, is to be a limited edition collection with kaftan, kimonos and oversized minimal dresses with Greek traditional textiles.
How do you see your future as a brand?
I hope my brand will be someday a promoter. What I mean ? Any collection I create, has details from the Greek tradition! Nεnε is my child and I want to travel all over the world with it.
